REC 4: Apocalypse is the final installment in the renowned Spanish horror franchise, continuing the terrifying story of a deadly virus that turns humans into monstrous beings. Directed by Jaume Balagueró, the film marks the return of journalist Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco), the protagonist from the first movie.
After the horrifying events inside the quarantined apartment building, Ángela is taken aboard a cargo ship at sea, where she is placed in isolation alongside a group of scientists and soldiers. Their goal is to study and contain the virus before it spreads to the outside world. However, the ship soon turns into a death trap when the infection breaks out again, transforming the crew into bloodthirsty creatures.
Unlike the previous entries, REC 4 abandons the found-footage style in favor of a more traditional cinematic approach, focusing on intense action, a claustrophobic atmosphere, and relentless chase sequences. The film creates a gripping sense of entrapment as the characters find themselves stranded on a ship in the middle of the ocean with no escape.
While REC 4: Apocalypse received mixed reviews from critics, it remains a fitting conclusion to the franchise, delivering moments of pure horror and suspense for fans of zombie and survival horror films.
